Ultra Flake (Corn)

Product Code: UF40
Back to: Minerals & Ingredients

How is steam-flaked

corn made?

Steam-flaked corn is produced by cooking the grain with steam under pressure for 20 to 30 minutes, followed by flaking the grain through large, heated rollers. The resulting flake will be approximately 1/10 inch thick, and the starch in it will be gelatinized.

Because the starch in steam-flaked corn is highly digestible, it can be used in place of feed ingredients such as bakery product, red dog, wheat midds, and barley or wheat flour.

It provides a rapidly-available source of carbohydrates to the rumen microbes. Using steam-flaked corn in combination with other feedstuffs like corn meal, beet pulp, citrus pulp, soy hulls, and forages will provide a continuous source of carbohydrates for rumen fermentation.

Ultra Flake Corn is just one more step that Poulin Grain takes to make our feeds the best choice.
