Because Back to Basics® may offer a higher protein and fat ratio than your dog is used to, it may take up to ten days for your dog’s system to become acclimated to Back to Basics. Slowly mix with his other food over a five- to ten-day period until your dog is solely eating Back to Basics.
Now, how much you feed your dog per day is another story. The feeding guidelines we provide are just that. A guide. Your dog’s individual needs will vary based upon his size, his activity level, his environment and even his age. And because Back to Basics is a calorie-dense food, you will naturally feed less than your average store brand. But because it’s so palatable, your dog will love it. So we don’t recommend free-feeding because we guarantee he’ll gobble up Back to Basics. Remember, overfeeding can cause digestive upset.
Be sure to check your dog’s weight and adjust feeding levels to maintain healthy weight. And, don’t forget to see your vet regularly.
